Duties:
- Greets patients, family members and others arriving in the surgery or family waiting area introducing yourself as volunteer (name).
- Explains in general terms what is expected.
- Asks for general contact information to be shared with the nurse liaison and staff.
- Uses the schedule to record phone numbers, contact information, and the room number the patient is assigned to.
- Call the appropriate department and announces the patient’s check-in.
- Escorts the patient and family members to appropriate department when directed to do so by the nurse.
- Explain to the family members how they can track the progress of the patient through the entire process utilizing the tracking board.
- Communicates information with the RN liaison and utilizes her for specific questions regarding visitation of patient’s pre and post op, room assignments, plus more.
- Presents a caring and professional attitude to everyone including vendors, physicians, drivers, and anyone who comes to you for assistance.
Requirements:
- Possess the maturity and interpersonal skills to cordially interact with patients, staff, volunteers and other customers of Palomar Medical Center.
- Excellent communication skills for customer service and phone answering.
- Be able to sit for moderate periods as well as walk the hallways and lobby areas without difficulty.
- Volunteers must be flexible and possess problem-solving skills as well as be able to handle stressful situations.
- Volunteers must maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Assignments:
(All shifts may not be available)
- Escondido: Monday – Friday: 8am-12pm, 12pm-4pm
- Poway: Monday – Friday: 7am-11am, 11am-3pm
