Programs at both locations are available 24-hours a day to provide medical services for children and adults who have experienced sexual and/or physical abuse. We work closely with local investigative and prosecutorial agencies to provide complete state of the art assessments that may be later used in court. Experts in the field of child abuse and sexual assault are maintained on staff to respond and also provide consultation and education to other professionals and to the community.

In 2022, Palomar Health became California’s designated hospital-based training center for forensic medical evidentiary exams through the California Clinical Forensic Medical Training Center (CCFMTC). Today, following the creation of the Palomar UC San Diego Health Authority in 2026, the organizations continue working together to advance high-quality, trauma-informed forensic healthcare education for providers across California.

Patients will never receive a bill for Forensic Health Services. Law enforcement provides a fee for service though this does not compensate the full cost of the program. Forensic Health Services works closely with the Palomar UC San Diego Health Foundation and relies on grant funding, private and public funding partnerships committed to ensuring the availability of child abuse, sexual assault, and domestic violence services in San Diego.
